FUJIFILM Corporation receives a favorable Final Initial Determination in United States ITC case against Sony Corporation

September 15, 2017

FUJIFILM Corporation (Kenji Sukeno, President and Chief Operating Officer) announced today that the company received a favorable Final Initial Determination and Recommended Determination on Remedy and Bonding in its United States International Trade Commission (ITC) case against Sony Corporation. ITC Administrative Law Judge, David P. Shaw, ruled in favor of issuing a limited exclusion order and a cease and desist order directed at Sony Corporation and its affiliates, finding that Sony is unlawfully importing into the United States certain magnetic data storage cartridge products that infringe Fujifilm U.S. patents*.

Judge David P. Shaw's Determinations, which are expected to be effective early 2018, will specifically prohibit importation into the U.S. of Sony's manufactured Linear Tape-Open (LTO)** Ultrium 7 cartridges.

Fujifilm is confident that it has sufficient capacity to satisfy market demand for LTO-7. Furthermore, Fujifilm is committed to offering unprecedented technology at competitive pricing as it fully understands that other storage options are available to its customers.

Fujifilm has made, and will continue to make, significant investments in R&D and United States manufacturing to advance tape technology, and Fujifilm will vigorously protect its domestic industry and intellectual property.
