ESD Technology

Endoscopic submucosal dissection

Thanks to the use of HDTV endoscopy with the Super-CCD chip, pathological changes to the mucous membranes of the digestive tract can be identified even earlier. This trend is further supported by the use of virtual chromoendoscopy in combination with Fujifilm optical zoom endoscopes. Any early changes can be treated using new methods to achieve en bloc resection with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).

Safe to use and more informative.

With ESD (endoscopic submucosal dissection), surface changes in the mucous membranes can be surgically removed using electrosurgical knives. One advantage of this new technique is the reduction of the extent of surgical intervention, as the treatment is performed using the body’s natural orifices.

The en bloc excision of mucous membrane sections with pathological changes allows pathologists to assess the probability of whether the whole of the affected area has been removed. By contrast, such a statement is not possible for the alternative piecemeal method, as the affected area is removed in a series of small steps using loops. ESD provides patients with greater safety and the most comprehensive care possible.

High-frequency FlushKnife for safe ESD.

The Fujifilm FlushKnife ESD knives can be used for all steps in this procedure, from the initial marking to actual excision. The water jet keeps the tip of the knife free from tissue residue and thus as sharp as possible. The insulated ceramics and the option of different blade lengths make the knife very safe to use in different areas, such as the stomach or the rectum.
